April 2004 - Spiritual Seedlings

"Evolution is the law of life: Number is the law of the universe; Unity is the law of God."
                                                                                                           Pythagoras.

Publisher's Pen:

Pythagoras believed that everything in the universe was subject to predictable and progressive cycles. He also believed that numbers represent qualities, where figures represent quantities. Hence, spiritual versus physical principles govern our destinies through the study of numerology.

Geometry was never my thing in school. I loved to read, but I was scared to death of math. In the middle of getting my teaching degree, one of my sons came home from college to tutor me in physics. And later, I saw that same anxiety in my third grade students.

But, there is a different side to math than working with figures. Enter Pythagoras. Born in 582 B.C., he studied in Egypt and had Plato as a follower. Pythagoras discovered the mystical significance of numbers, and saw that the numbers 1 through 9 symbolized stages of universal principles. He also saw the explanation of all natural phenomena in number patterns and geometric ratios.

The stages that the numbers 1 through 9 represent is the progression of an idea before it can become a reality. Therefore, all manifestation is a result of these stages, and all numbers can ultimately be reduced to one of these digits. Numerology is the art and science of understanding the spiritual side of numbers, and with it, we can see the orderly progression of all manifestation.

Not such a crazy and chaotic world after all, is it?  Not only is working in this way with math fun, but it helps us to see why we are different from each other. It helps us to see that "different" isn't bad or weird; it's just different.

May we laugh, play and learn together as we continue in our search for the true gold that lies within our children.

Smiles,

Elaine

How do your numbers stack up? The numbers in your birthdate show a unique and underlying purpose to your life. Have some fun with this exercise and practice math at the same time!

Number Destiny:

To determine the number of your destiny, add together the number value of your month, day and year of birth and reduce the total to a single digit. For example, if you were born on March 7, 1955, you would solve the problem in this way:

3

                        7

                 1955

                 1965,

now add the numbers in this answer and reduce to a single digit:

1 + 9 + 6 + 5 = 21, (since the answer is still a double digit, we reduce again):

2 + 1 = 3

3 is the number destiny.
